The whole of Brisbane—Australia’s New World City— is all set for what is called the biggest international event this year, the 2011 Asia Pacific Cities Summit on Wednesday 6 – Friday 8 July, 2011.
With the theme ‘The Business of Cities’, the 2011 Summit will bring together world-renowned speakers, presentations and case studies that address sustainability, connectivity and managing rapid growth in our cities over the coming decades.
What is Asia Pacific Cities Summit?
Asia Pacific Cities Summit is a Brisbane City Council initiative to drive economic growth for the city, the State and the Asia Pacific region; the three-day APCS is one of the region’s premier international business and civic forums. It has helped businesses from all over the world gain entry into the fastest growing market on the planet – the Asia Pacific region.
A one of a kind business matching program that will fast track connections among Summit delegates, sponsors, exhibitors, business representatives and government agencies to drive economic growth for the Asia Pacific region and beyond. Held biennially, the host city alternates between Brisbane and bidding international cities. The 2009 APCS was held in Incheon, Korea.
In its 14-year history, the APCS has become one of the region’s premier business and civic forums. In recent years the Summit has been used as a springboard for global cities and businesses to gain entry into the rapidly growing Asia Pacific markets.
Lord Mayor announces APCS Keynote Speakers
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk recently announced the third keynote speaker last 16 June 2011, Philips Senior Director of Energy & Climate Change, Head of Strategic Sustainability Initiatives, Harry Verhaar will join former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and founder of the Virgin Group, Sir Richard Branson.
“Through the Summit’s business matching program, delegates will be able to forge international business partnerships with the world’s fastest growing market – the Asia Pacific region and I encourage local business and civic leaders to join this forum,” Cr Quirk said.
Cr Quirk added that Brisbane is definitely back to business following the January floods and the Summit is another way to showcase this to the world.
“This July we will welcome business and government delegates from up to 100 cities, with 80 cities already committed, including 19 from East Asia, 10 from South East Asia, 35 from Australasia, seven from South Asia as well as cities from Europe, Africa, Middle East, North Asia and the Americas,” he said.
This year’s APCS will focus on business growth, trade, investment and economic outcomes for participating delegates and sponsors and developing partnerships between local, national and international government agencies and the private sector.
